Greetings from Sunny California!
We had a great time playing in our Bushi League side event at our Kotei this year. I figured you would like a report of the results.
Prizes included 2 Torn Asunder boosters every round to each player who stayed in the event (as the event started at 10 PM after a long day at the Kotei), with first and second place getting 4 boosters + either a complete rare set of SoD or an uncut sheet of a Samurai or Celestial legal set (unsure which set it was). The remaining players got packs.
There were 8 players:
First place (me!) ran Spider-Commanders out of Keep of the Dead. He managed to beat out the other major contendor (see below) by attacking so aggressively that it was impossible for them to build up enough fire counters, and used enough attachments to stop their ranged attacks. Being able to use the followers and follower support from H&T was what really helped push the deck over the edge--in addition to having 2 retributions at just the right time.
Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth place players all ran "Fire-Monks" out of Monastery of New Thought; the decks were all pretty much the same and the reasons for playing it were all "it seemed like the easiest archtype to switch over to Bushi-league, as very few rares were present in the deck in the first place". Nerve Strike was a total MVP. The deck's mirror matches were pretty bad--games lasted upwards of 80 minutes with either player just having too many easily replaceable armies with too many kill-actions and pumps to easily overcome their opponent's. Ultimately what usually broke these ties were an adequately pumped and protected Shikei.
Sixth place ran Towers of the Yogo--modifying the H&T deck just slightly. Not much to say here if you've seen the deck run.
I'm not 100% sure on who got 7th and who got 8th, but the last two players were those who ran a Marshaling Fields deck that was basically a starter deck out of the box, and another player who I think ran a Phoenix Temple of Purity deck who I didn't have much of a chance to see play.
