I was hoping we'd be doing this again! I had a lot of fun with it - now I have only to decide what to play.

We had a pretty good time with this event - 10 players participated, though two dropped after the first round. Actually not bad when turnout for the entire Kotei was 41 players! I played a version of the Lion deck that I posted elsewhere on this forum.
I went 1-2, but I don't think it was due to any shortcoming of the deck. It worked as intended in the first round, though more defensive than I'd normally like from a swarm deck (I guess I just don't play swarm well, based on going 2-4 with my Crab deck in the main event). Round 2 started strong but went downhill after barely losing a battle that I needed to win. Round 3 pitted me against Phoenix honor, which I'm told is a thing now. I did some damage, but his sorcery held me at bay long enough for him to cross the line.
Still, I had a great time and was glad to see people enthusiastic about participating! Some people didn't bring a Bushi deck, but people pitched in their unwanted cards from Ivory prize packs we'd received throughout the day, allowing people to build decks. In retrospect, I should have brought along some clan-specific "toolkit" decks I had ready. If anyone else is intending to run a Bushi tournament at a Kotei (or other event) this season, please let me know.

So...I was that Phoenix Honour Player Rd. 3, and yes, it would appear that it's a thing indeed! Or at the very least, using Phoenix - a Yojimbo-military deck won the Bushi event, which is really cool!
Here's how my rounds went:
Rd. 1 - Crane Military I made so many misplays, I probably shouldn't even talk about it. There were many salvageable moments, and I just blew 'em all. The up-side? Got my head in the game; however, my opponent withdrew from the tourney, so I basically was destined to have the worst tie-breakers.
Rd. 2 - Giant Crab Military Here's where Phoenix resiliency came in a big way. By holding your opponent at bay and pinging off his guys before withdrawing, it made it much easier to build up a robust defence. I blind-sided him by slapping him with a persmattering of force hosing and battle bows, with an Okura being released where necessary. This rocketed my honour for me on two occasions, and with so much honour gain in between, it was just too much for my opponent.
Rd. 3 - Lion Swarm Military So I thought I had made a mistake in telling Okami-san about my deck...after I explained it, we got paired up! But it may have worked to my advantage - with him knowing that I would attempt to grind his army to dust with mine if he attacked all-out, and with me buffing my defences often (things like Flashy Technique possibly, but probably Vigilant Eeye, and definitely Open Inspired Devotion), he switched to using Cav tactics. Unfortunately for him, I saw Kamikos, and eventually overtook him in honour to assure that I would be able to send home his back-up (which would have otherwise taken down my Kamikos, preventing them from saving more provinces). It was more of a strategic game than a tactical one, and it was really fun, even when I TIED a duel vs. someone with 2C vs. my 4!!! (Hit 2/3 COAATs, and never saw the third. Ouch, though I cannot complain.)
